What you need
- A Business Manager admin, with an app in developers.facebook.com attached to the business. Any app type works, because it only issues the token.
Collection timing and the period a reading covers are separate. Check the source's data-through date as well as the metric's reporting period.
Connect Meta Ads in 4 steps
- Create a system user
Business Settings → Users → System users → Add. Name it, role Employee.
System user role: Employee.Open System users ↗ - Assign the assets
Assign assets: the ad account with View performance, and for Instagram the Facebook Page with Read insights.

Generate new token → pick your app → 60 days (or Never for a verified business) → permissions ads_read and read_insights, plus instagram_basic, instagram_manage_insights and pages_read_engagement if Instagram uses this connection → Generate. Copy it once.

Leave the default unless Meta has deprecated it.
Enter credentials only in your Sondola workspace. Keep keys out of screenshots, public repositories and support messages.
What Sondola asks you for
Meta Business Suite → Settings → Users → System users → your system user → Generate token. Pick the app, choose 60 days, and tick ads_read and read_insights (plus instagram_basic, instagram_manage_insights and pages_read_engagement if Instagram uses this connection). Copy it once.
Meta offers Never expires or 60 days and recommends 60. We read the real expiry from Meta after you paste, so the card counts down honestly.Leave v21.0 unless Sondola asks you to change it. A pinned version means a Meta update never changes a number without warning.
Secrets are stored encrypted in your workspace, in a vault kept separate from the application database. Sondola never shows them again.
Permissions
- A system user with the Employee role.
- The ad account with View performance.
- Token permissions ads_read and read_insights, plus the three Instagram permissions if Instagram uses the same connection.
Refresh and first reading
Once a day. Most tools refresh once or twice a day, and every number shows when it was read.
Save and test reads the token's own expiry and lists the ad accounts and pages it can see. The expiry is shown on the connection so it is never a surprise.
Troubleshooting
Save and test rejects the credential.
Meta offers Never expires or 60 days and recommends 60. We read the real expiry from Meta after you paste, so the card counts down honestly.
The test passes but no reading appears.
The collector runs on its schedule, so a successful test does not mean a reading has landed. Check the source's data-through date and the metric's reporting period, and treat a missing reading as missing, not zero.
A number differs from Meta Ads.
Compare the definition, unit and reporting period with the same number in Meta Ads before treating a difference as an error. When a stored reading changes, its history keeps the old value, the new value and the reason.
