What you need
- Managers and admins of the Amplitude project.
Collection timing and the period a reading covers are separate. Check the source's data-through date as well as the metric's reporting period.
Connect Amplitude in 4 steps
- Open the project's settings
Amplitude → Settings (gear, bottom left) → Projects → your project → General.
Amplitude: API keys ↗ - Copy the API key and secret key
Both are on the General tab. The API key is per project, not the org-level key and not a Data API token. If the secret key was never generated, press Generate. It is shown once.
- Region
US unless the project lives in the EU data centre (its URL is analytics.eu.amplitude.com).
- Project ID
On the same General tab, labelled Project ID.
Enter credentials only in your Sondola workspace. Keep keys out of screenshots, public repositories and support messages.
What Sondola asks you for
Amplitude → Settings → Projects → your project → General. The API Key of the project, not the org-level key and not a Data API token.
Same page, next to the API key. Managers and admins only. Shown once when generated. Keys do not rotate in place: generate a new one, paste it here, then delete the old one in Amplitude.
EU projects answer only on analytics.eu.amplitude.com. The US host returns invalid_key for an EU project.
Secrets are stored encrypted in your workspace, in a vault kept separate from the application database. Sondola never shows them again.
Permissions
- The project API key and secret key, which only managers and admins can see.
- Used only for read queries, such as one segmentation query in the test.
Refresh and first reading
Twice a day. Most tools refresh once or twice a day, and every number shows when it was read.
Save and test runs one segmentation query for yesterday. Charts are read on the schedule.
Troubleshooting
The test passes but no reading appears.
Amplitude is a Pick the metric source. A working connection produces nothing until you choose a metric and its period. Then check the metric's reporting period and the source's data-through date.
A number differs from Amplitude.
Compare the definition, unit and reporting period with the same number in Amplitude before treating a difference as an error. When a stored reading changes, its history keeps the old value, the new value and the reason.
