What you need

  • An Intercom workspace admin who can open the Developer Hub.

Collection timing and the period a reading covers are separate. Check the source's data-through date as well as the metric's reporting period.

Connect Intercom in 3 steps

  1. Create a private app

    Open the Developer Hub, go to Your apps and press New App. Name it, for example Metrics read-only, pick your workspace and press Create app. It is installed on that workspace straight away.

  2. Copy the access token

    In the app go to Configure, then Authentication, and copy the Access Token.

  3. Pick the region

    Choose the region your workspace lives in. A token only answers on its own region's address.

Enter credentials only in your Sondola workspace. Keep keys out of screenshots, public repositories and support messages.

Secrets are stored encrypted in your workspace, in a vault kept separate from the application database. Sondola never shows them again.

Permissions

  • An access token from a private app in the Intercom Developer Hub, installed on your workspace.
  • A token only answers on its own region's address.

Refresh and first reading

Twice a day. Most tools refresh once or twice a day, and every number shows when it was read.

Save and test reads the admin the token belongs to. Conversations are counted by the time they started, inclusive of both ends of each week or month.

Troubleshooting

The test passes but no reading appears.

Intercom is a Pick the metric source. A working connection produces nothing until you choose a metric and its period. Then check the metric's reporting period and the source's data-through date.

A number differs from Intercom.

Compare the definition, unit and reporting period with the same number in Intercom before treating a difference as an error. When a stored reading changes, its history keeps the old value, the new value and the reason.
