Connect Mercury to Sondola

Bring cash on hand, net burn and spend into the same review as growth and revenue, without treating a bank balance as a monthly performance metric.

Read-only. Sondola never changes your data in Mercury.

What Sondola reads from Mercury

  • Cash on hand
  • Net burn, bank
  • Spend by category and vendor

The Mercury connector supplies cash on hand, net burn from your bank transactions, and spend by category and vendor for the current month. Once QuickBooks or Xero close a month, your books take over that month's spend. It uses an automatic collector, so it does not require the per-metric selection step used by sources labelled Pick the metric.

Sondola shows this burn as Net burn, bank: money out minus money in, by the month each transaction posted. Mercury card autopay between your own accounts is left out, and money wired or transferred in counts as funding, not income. Each spending line keeps its date, amount, payee and category, so Spend can show where the money goes.

What you need

  • A Mercury account admin who can create an API token.
  • A token created with Read Only access, copied in full including the secret-token: prefix.
  • The intended Mercury organization and a balance you can compare with the collected reading.

Collection timing and the period a reading covers are separate. Check the source's data-through date as well as the metric's reporting period.

Connect Mercury in 3 steps

  1. Create a read-only Mercury token

In Mercury, open your organization, All Settings, then Tokens. Choose Create an API Token and select Read Only. Copy the complete token value before closing the dialog.

  2. Enter the connection details

In Sondola, open Settings, Connections, then Integrations and choose Mercury. Enter a Connection name and the API token (read only), including its secret-token: prefix.

  3. Test and check the first balance

Choose Save and test, inspect the connection result, then check whether a cash reading is available. The collector runs automatically, and a successful connection result alone is not evidence that the cash card has a new balance.

Enter credentials only in your Sondola workspace. Keep keys out of screenshots, public repositories and support messages.

Permissions

  • A Read Only API token. Mercury documents that this token can retrieve account data without permission to initiate transactions or manage recipients.

Refresh and first reading

Twice a day. Most tools refresh once or twice a day, and every number shows when it was read.

Limits and history

  • Use a Read Only token. Mercury documents that this token can retrieve account data without permission to initiate transactions or manage recipients.
  • Net burn, bank covers only accounts and cards held at Mercury. Spend on cards or accounts held elsewhere never reaches it, so read it next to Net burn, books from your accounting tool.
  • A fixed historical import window is not specified in the public connection help. Verify available balance dates before relying on a historical cash comparison. Collection cadence does not make a captured balance real-time.

Verify your first reading

  • Open the cash metric and check What it means. Confirm that you are comparing cash on hand, rather than revenue, monthly burn or a single transaction.
  • In Where it comes from, confirm Mercury and the balance date. Compare the same accounts and balance basis in Mercury before treating a difference as an error.
  • Check the captured date and Connection status separately. Money may move after a balance was captured, so compare dates as well as amounts.
  • Review obligations separately in the cash view. Unknown obligations are not zero, and cash on hand alone does not establish available spending capacity or runway.
  • Open Net burn, bank and compare the same closed month in Mercury. If you also connect QuickBooks or Xero, compare it with Net burn, books. The two answer different questions and will not agree to the dollar.

Troubleshooting

The connection test fails.

Check that the full token was pasted, including secret-token:, that it has Read Only access and that it belongs to the intended Mercury organization.

The balance differs from Mercury.

Compare the balance date, accounts and balance basis. A current bank balance and an earlier captured balance can differ even when both readings are correct.

Cash is present but Net burn, bank is missing.

A month appears once it has been read from its first day. Until then the current month shows as month to date. Do not substitute cash on hand or infer zero.
