Revenue
Connect Stripe to Sondola
Bring subscription revenue into the same review as product usage and cash, with the period each figure covers stated next to it rather than assumed.
Read-only. Sondola never changes your data in Stripe. Setup reviewed 20 September 2026.

What Sondola reads from Stripe
- MRR at period end
- Active paid subscriptions
- New subscriptions
- Churned subscriptions
- Revenue, captured charges net of refunds
The Stripe connector supplies five measures, derived from subscriptions and charges: MRR at period end, active paid subscriptions at period end, subscriptions started within the period, subscriptions cancelled or ended within the period, and revenue from captured charges net of refunds. It is labelled Pick the metric, so you choose which of these goes on your board rather than receiving all of them.
MRR is computed by Sondola, not read from a Stripe report. Each active subscription's price and interval is normalised to a monthly figure. Trials contribute nothing until they convert, and metered items are excluded. If your own Stripe view uses a different treatment, the two figures can both be correct and still differ, which is why the definition is shown next to the number.
What you need
- A Stripe account owner or developer who can create API keys.
- A restricted key, not a full secret key. Sondola will refuse anything that does not begin rk_.
- A figure in Stripe you can compare the first reading against, and the period it covers.
Collection timing and the period a reading covers are separate. Check the source's data-through date as well as the metric's reporting period.
Connect Stripe in 4 steps
- Create a restricted key
In Stripe, open Developers, then API keys, then Create restricted key. Give it read access to Subscriptions, Customers and Charges. Set everything else to none.
Stripe, restricted API keys ↗ - Copy the key
Stripe shows the value once. A live restricted key begins rk_live_.
- Enter the connection details
In Sondola, open Settings, Connections, then Integrations and choose Stripe. Enter a connection name and the restricted key.
- Test, then choose a metric
Choose Save and test. A successful test lists one subscription, which proves the key is accepted and that subscriptions are readable. It does not mean a reading has landed yet. Stripe is a Pick the metric source, so choose the measure you want and its grain before expecting anything on your board.
Enter credentials only in your Sondola workspace. Keep keys out of screenshots, public repositories and support messages.
Permissions
- A restricted key with read access to Subscriptions, Customers and Charges, and everything else set to none.
- Sondola refuses a full secret key. A key limited this way cannot move money, issue refunds or change a subscription.
Refresh and first reading
Twice a day. Most tools refresh once or twice a day, and every number shows when it was read.
Limits and history
- Use a restricted key with read access only. Stripe documents restricted keys as the way to give an integration the narrowest possible access, and a key limited to Subscriptions, Customers and Charges cannot move money, issue refunds or change a subscription.
- Revenue here means captured charges net of refunds. It is not recognised revenue, it is not accrual revenue, and it should not be reconciled against an accounting report without an adjustment for timing. If you want an accrual figure, connect QuickBooks Online and keep the two side by side rather than choosing between them.
- Historical coverage depends on what is in your Stripe account. Sondola reads back from the current period and a complete period is required before a value is published, so a partially elapsed month will not appear until it closes.
Verify your first reading
- Open the metric and check What it means. Confirm you are comparing MRR at period end against MRR at period end, and not against revenue collected, which is a different measure with a different shape.
- In Where it comes from, confirm Stripe and the reporting period. Compare the same period in Stripe before treating a difference as an error.
- Check whether trials are in your Stripe comparison. Sondola excludes a trialling subscription from MRR until it converts. A Stripe view that counts trials will read higher, and neither figure is wrong.
- Check metered and usage-based items separately. They are excluded from MRR here because their monthly value is not known until the usage is.
- Read the captured date and the connection status separately. A green connection means the key works, not that today's number is in.
Troubleshooting
The connection test fails with a key error.
Check the key begins rk_live_ and not sk_. Sondola refuses full secret keys on purpose. If the key is restricted and still refused, confirm it has read access to Subscriptions.
The test passes but no reading appears.
Stripe is a Pick the metric source. A working connection alone produces nothing until you choose a measure and a grain. Check the metric's reporting period, then the source's data-through date.
MRR does not match my Stripe dashboard.
Compare three things before assuming an error: the period each figure covers, whether trials are included, and whether metered items are counted. Sondola excludes trials until conversion and excludes metered items, and shows that definition next to the number.
A number changed after I looked at it.
Refunds and late captures change a closed period. Sondola records a restatement with the reason rather than overwriting the old figure.
